The South Beach Diet Book
The South Beach Diet became outrageously successful after the weight loss book by almost the same name was published, released and picked up momentum in neighbor to neighbor events and functions as dieting success results were quietly discussed and raved about. The book, I'm referring to, The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss. I'd recommend buying it used since, because of how popular the diet book became (2nd best selling diet book in the U.S. within the last 10 years - as of the year 2006) there have been over zealous printings, which has resulted in new and used copies for literally, less than one dollar, including hardcover versions.
The now famed doctor behind the diet book is a cardiologist from not so ironically, Florida, (as in 'South Beach') named Arthur Agatston. He pioneered the diet plan after creating a dietary routine and meal plan for his patients out of necessity, not able to find something that lived up to his demanding expectations and emphasized "good carbs" and "good fats". Commonly confused with the Atkins Diet, a completely different beast that pushes the philosophy of a low carbohydrate (low carb) diet, The South Beach Diet instead encourages eliminating the bad carbs and bad fats, while replacing each with good carbs and good fats.
Good carbs are explained as (according to Doctor Arthur Agatston) being high in fiber or good fat, and have a low G.I. - also known as the glycemic index, which basically means those types of foods are digested and absorbed slowly into the body. But, also recommended is eating fiber or good fat whenever good carbs are consumed in order to slow down the digestion of the carbohydrates. Good fats are defined as poly-unsaturated or monounsaturated fats, while the bad fats being saturated fats or trans fat.
The South Beach Diet is not meant to be a fad. It is not a one week or one month solution to shed enough pounds to be able to fit into a new summer bikini. It was made for the long haul.
Discovering straight talk and good for you information about the healthy life you want to have in your life, is not as hard as you think. No matter your interest: from something as unusual and mainstream as having an Ultram allergy to weight loss 'secrets' that really work, you name it. Becoming more aware and creating a healthy living doesn't have to be hard, or at all challenging if you do not want it to be, nor is it mandatory that you have to forgo all the tastes, living like a rock star lifestyle and adventure you now appreciate as often is the misconception.
